Meet Dr. Ruth Walker.

School Board decisions should be guided by evidence and collaboration, with students - and the educators who support them - at the center.

I am a developmental psychologist, an educator, and a parent. I earned a PhD in psychology with a specialization in development, as well as a degree in early childhood education. I have spent more than 15 years teaching in higher education. Although I have not taught in K-12 classrooms, I understand the challenges our teachers face, including the impact of pay compression and the absence of cost-of-living increases.

My work includes research on teaching and learning that has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Teaching of Psychology and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. I am also a mom to a kindergartener and a first grader in Hamilton County public schools, which gives me a firsthand perspective on the experiences of families in our community.

Beyond my professional experience, I am committed to listening to and learning from the students, teachers, staff, and families who experience our schools every day.
